This Baby Gift Truly Is A Miracle

One of the gift categories I get asked about more than any other is baby gifts. I recently got a friend a great gift she is really loving, so I thought I would tell you about it in case you or your boss might have a baby gift to buy at some point soon. The item above is called a Miracle Blanket and honestly people keep saying it truly is one because it works really well on most babies. Other companies make swaddling blankets, but this one is longer so you can truly wrap it around tight enough (which is comforting to them) and it has a pocket to put the tiny baby feet in. I love the pink camo one above, but they also come in solid colors. It's reasonably priced and a great gift for any newborn.

Adorable Baby Gift Idea

I'm always on the lookout for cute baby gifts. For some reason that's a gift category I get asked about all the time. I recently saw a gift that a close friend got that was really adorable from a company called Baby Bunch. They put together onesies, t-shirts, hats socks, etc. into bunches that look like flower bouquets (they come above in little pails and just as the bunches themselves). The price point for all that you get is pretty reasonable and they are really sweet and unique. It's a great gift for you to send yourself or recommend to a boss.

High Fashion For Your Little Hipster

If you or your boss is looking for an ultra cute and fashionable gift for a little one, look no further than the Stella McCartney collection for Gap Kids. If I had kids, I would be buying a ton of this limited edition line that's casual, yet stylish. Her collection ranges in price, but much of it's affordable and a few of the pieces that are more expensive look to be worth it. If you want to check out what some of it looks like, here's a peek at stuff for Toddler Boys and Girls. The one piece I really don't like that's kind of overpriced is this Sgt. Pepper style jacket, so take a pass on that.

A Blankie & Stuffed Animal Rolled Into One Cute Gift

I have had to buy gifts for babies a million times in every price range for friends and bosses and it's always hard finding new ideas. In the last year or two I found this adorable blanket/mini stuffed animal combo that every baby I get it for adores.

Babies Shouldn't Be So Hard To Shop For Part Deux

I'm not sure why, but one gift category I get asked about constantly is baby gifts. I'm not sure if it's the age I'm at or that there's a big baby boom in Hollywood and probably all over, but I swear I get asked for ideas for that all the time. Like with all other gifts I give, I try to be a bit inventive and give something that has a bit of a twist, but is still useful for the new addition. Back in January when I started this blog I did this post with a bunch of ideas for baby gifts, so if you missed it, check it out. Here are a few more ideas that I also like:

Feathering the Nest By Tracy Hutson -This is really more of a gift for a pregnant mom. It's a book all about decorating the room in a way that's attractive, eco-friendly and stimulating for the little one, so I suppose they benefit and it's sort of a gift for the baby as well.

Babyhawk Baby Carrier - There are tons of carriers on the market, but I like that this can be worn front and back and that you can design your own or buy one of the in stock carriers. Also the name is kind of hipster mom punk rockesque and that makes me like it even more.

If you want to do a more classic item like a onesie, but add in a little bit of whimsy, Kitsel always has really fun & unique clothes for babies. They have tons of onesies with funny sayings on them, so if it interests you check out this hilarious one for a girl and this cool one for a boy.

Gifts For Your Favorite Geek

Some people feel that Geek is a bad word and would be insulted if you referred to them as such. I'm not one of those people. I'm definitely geeky to some degree and I embrace it. Here are a few gift items that any geek in your life would probably enjoy receiving:

I would love to get this solar backpack by Voltaic or any of the solar bags from Noonsolar. All you need is the sun and you can charge various electronics with no outlet. Voltaic also just came out with a solar computer bag that can actually charge a laptop.

This t-shirt from Think Geek is pretty funny and if you wanted to spend a bit more you could a gift certificate with it.

I adore this La Cie USB flash drive that's shaped like a key. Tons of USB drives are small now, but they're so easy to lose. This is a great solution, as it can go right on your key chain.

If you really want to take it to the max with the geek gift, but still not break the bank you can get this (but as everyone always mentions -- inaccurate) Space Invaders shirt and put it together with these cool Space Invader style ice cube trays.

A Hodgepoge Of Great Gift Ideas From The Weekend

Normally I do these kind of postings individually, but I thought it might be fun to post a little Monday morning potpourri of great gift finds I happened to discover this weekend. I'm feeling wily and unpredictable like that today. So, here's a few unique ideas I found that I think will be great to suggest to your boss or to use in your own life:

For the tech guru in your life, the incredibly realistic iPhone and Blackberry soaps from a site called Two Eggplants are a fun and surprising gift. The site also sells a bunch of other soaps that look like real things.

If you're in the mood to send someone a food gift, these handmade peanut butter cups that have chunky peanut butter and high quality chocolate in them from Little Laura's Sweets are a great alternative to cookies, brownies or cupcakes. It's always more exciting for the recipient when you send something special and new that they haven't received before.

A gift idea that I happened upon randomly this weekend via Twitter is this great baby delivery bag from Little Stork. It comes in a variety of sizes and has all you need to take to the hospital, so that you can be prepared and not have to do the work of picking out everything to bring with you. I don't have kids, but this would be a great gift to give to a pregnant friend at a shower. I also like that there are a few to choose from in different price ranges.

Now Your Face Will Melt In Your Mouth, Not In Your Hand

If you have never sent custom M&M's to someone, you should. It's a great little gift and it isn't insanely expensive. I did them last year for my sister when she got married (I put Soon To Be Mrs. and her new last name on them) and she adored them. It's just a nice little way to put a twist on a classic and make it more surprising. Now you can even put any image onto an M&M. Imagine it, instead of your name up in lights, you can have your face on a piece of candy. At least until someone eats your face. I swear there's a movie idea in there somewhere -Chocolate Zombies From Hell, maybe? My writer friend Jordan came up with something better, not a movie title, but more of a tagline for the candy - Feed Your Inner Cannibal and Eat Your Face. Okay, he wins.

All Weather Baby Gift Ideas

I will try to do another post later, but I thought I'd do a quick one to start the day. Good baby gifts can be hard to find. If you're new to the blog, check out this post I did previously with a variety of baby gift suggestions. One area I didn't cover in that post is finding fun, but useful gifts to give to people who live in places with harsh weather. Here's a couple of gifts I like:

Rain or Shine Kids Blankets - This is a water resistant polar fleece blanket.

Lille Baby Eurotote - This is basically a soft and cozy baby sleeping bag that can be used in a stroller, but also has other uses.

Barefoot Dreams Cozychic Cardigan & Hat - This item isn't quite as all weather durable as the other two, but it's a gift I give really often and people adore it. It looks really chic and it's very warm for wearing in cold weather. It's also really reasonably priced.

The Ultimate Hipster Stroller

The title says it all. If you want a unique, but overpriced hipster (I have to admit sort of cool looking) stroller, this looks like a good bet. Great gift to give to a celeb if you have an unlimited budget.

Unusual Finds of the Week

I keep reading about these tiny cupcakes from Baked By Melissa in NYC. They are tiny (around the size of a quarter) and come in wacky flavors like Smores, Cookie Dough and PB&J. You have to order a minimum of 100 and that will run you about $90. They seem ideal if you want to send a larger size food gift or want to have a unique sweet treat at a party. Another interesting item I saw this week is this adorable sweater from Oeuf that has mittens attached. If you live where it's cold or have to give a baby gift to someone who does, it's a chic and practical idea.

Should Babies Really Be So Hard To Shop For ??

One thing I get asked about often is baby gifts. People always want to find something special and inventive to give. I tend to go either very classic for a baby gift or something super unique, but hardly ever in the middle. Here's a few of my favorites:

A Tiffany ratttle is always a classic choice. If you want to go Tiffany, but mix it up a little, this rattle is in a less predictable shape and style.

I have purchased a few baby blankets from the Kinder Cashmere site on behalf of employers for them to give as a gift for newborns and they have always been a hit. I think it's because it isn't the same item everyone usually gives. It's a bit more modern and chic and people respond to that. These blankets are pricey, but if money is no object and you want to give something nobody else will, it's a good choice.

For a soft and luxurious blanket that is much easier on the wallet, try this item from Little Giraffe that is sold at Nordstrom. It also comes in this color combo for a boy.

One gift I have given many times that I truly love is this cardigan and hat set by Barefoot Dreams. It's soft, chic and adorable.

If you have a friend that's a bit of a hipster and doesn't want something for their kid that is pastel and traditional, go for this onesie that has a bit more edge or go to Boss of Me Clothing for some other fun and hip clothes for babies.

Two really great and relatively inexpensive gifts that are fun and original are the Sleep Sheep and the Twilight Turtle (this is good for little kids and babies).

If you want to give a gift to a mom who is very eco-friendly (and these days that is hopefully everyone), try the Little Seed (they have a site and a local store in LA) or this item from Erbaviba that is one of my all time favorite things to give.
