Seriously, CUPCAKES for GUYS?? I didn't know that desserts were gender specific, but a place in NYC called Butch Bakery seems to think so. I have to admit that some of the flavors (Rum & Coke, for instance) do intrigue me a little. I suppose if you're looking for a food treat for a guy this might just be the perfect thing to do.

Custom Cookies On The Spot

How awesome would it be if you could go into a little shop, pick out the dough and mix in ingredients for a cookie and have it baked on the spot? Believe it or not, such a place exists, but unfortunately it isn't in the US (one can only hope it will come here soon). If you are visiting Toronto or perhaps your boss is going there for business, make sure to tell him to stop by Sweet Flour Bake Shop and create his own cookie that will be ready in only 2 minutes!

Drunken Dessert

I've written before that wine lovers are a hard group to buy for because they are passionate bunch and often they get themselves the things they want, as they just can't wait. I get super excited when I see a wine item that is semi under the radar that I can buy for a wine lover as a gift. I recently read about these wine cellar sorbets and them seem like a great item for someone who loves wine and dessert. It looks like currently you can't order online because they are changing that part of their site, but you can call them and place an order or find a local store that sells it.

Okay, I only have a minute or two today, so here's a quick tip. If you are sick of getting people cupcakes or cookies and you want to do a sweet treat that's a bit different, if you are in LA try these new gourmet churros from Xooro that I just heard about. They sound amazing. I haven't tried them, but I have heard good things. Once I try them, I will do an update.

Update on NYC Cupcakes

These Take The Cake

Oy another title of my own creation that I cringed at, but it works, so what am I going to do. Sorry posting has been light. There's been a flurry of job stuff and in a bit I'm heading off to another interview, so this is it for today. I'm kinda having a bad day, so it will cheer me up to feel useful to anyone reading this blog.

I did a posting last week about cupcakes in NYC and how you don't always have to go with the most popular place that everyone always uses, as it doesn't always mean it is the best. Even if the top choice is great, it's good to mix it up and send someone something surprising. In this town you say cupcakes to most people and often they think of Sprinkles. Sprinkles Cupcakes are good, but probably not my favorite, so I'm going to list them and a few others for you to check out (including 2 that have valley locations):

I had intended to blog about a productivity tip I'm into right now, but since I just read about something yummy and sweet, I thought I would do that first. If you're looking for a new treat to send out that isn't cookies or brownies, I have an idea for you. The New York Times did a piece today on Whoopie Pies and they look pretty good.

Here are a few of the places the article mentions you can buy them:

Williams Sonoma - They call them Sweetie Pies and do them in a heart shape.

Vermont Country Store -These look really good.

Cranberry Island Kitchen - These look yummy and come in some cool shapes.

Trois Pommes Patisserie - No picture on this website, but the other desserts they sell look great.

Unusual Finds of the Week

I keep reading about these tiny cupcakes from Baked By Melissa in NYC. They are tiny (around the size of a quarter) and come in wacky flavors like Smores, Cookie Dough and PB&J. You have to order a minimum of 100 and that will run you about $90. They seem ideal if you want to send a larger size food gift or want to have a unique sweet treat at a party. Another interesting item I saw this week is this adorable sweater from Oeuf that has mittens attached. If you live where it's cold or have to give a baby gift to someone who does, it's a chic and practical idea.
